At Seattle Sports Insider, there are a couple of posts addressing the question of whether it is even possible to negotiate a contract extension for an arb-eligible Scott Boras client.

This is one more philosophical Koan that got Jemanji to thinking about the Stars & Scrubs and WAR/$ paradigm.

Obviously, Zduriencik doesn't want to give Brandon Morrow-plus for Edwin Jackson, unless the Mariners are going to be able to build around Jackson.  To have him here for more than two years.

But if Jackson is going to be paid fair FA market wages, in year 3, why worry about whether he's here?  Why not just go buy a fungible free-agent pitcher at that point?  What "net value" can you ever expect from a Scott Boras client anyway?

This line of thinking is a signal that we have a light bulb off somewhere.  :- )

Cheers,
