The below was the "postgame" report after Lowe's ML debut against the White Sox.  After three more weeks of blistering 97 fastballs, the below opinions became the consensus, but after one game, the perception was another story - Dr D

Q:  What's the bottom line?

A:  He's a Jered Weaver-, Freddy Garcia-level rookie prospect.

Bear with me.  We'll revisit in the last paragraph to explain what we mean by that.

This merits its own banner … The Perfect 'Spot

Tons and tons of fascinating info in this thread … including some from guys who went to HS with Tuiasosopo, old quotes on him, just a fun read.

More goodness from The Internet's Best Chat Board.

Watch especially for Mariner Analyst's stuff, and here's the complete Jongewaard quote from draft day:

"But the good ones, like (Rickey) Henderson, (Ken) Griffey, the real good ones, it just seems like they just go up and keep going. He’s (Tuiasosopo) a gifted athlete." — Roger Jongewaard

"Matt was a player who, no matter where we drafted, we had a lot of interest in" - Bob Fontaine

Our amigo bedirthanaverage, who is one of the best M's analysts on the 'net, comes into Dr. D with a challenge pitch:

Doc, it is not semantics. Language matters, it is the only way we can communicate with eachother. If you don’t have established definitions of prospect terminology you wind up talking around each other and not to eachother.

So as the man behind the site, it would be nice for you to define the terminology how you expect it to be used on your site. What does a TOR mean for you and your readers, what is a GRADE A prospect, a blue-chipper, an AllStar, even the word prospect is used differently across the board.

How you define those terms makes a difference.

Just about everybody in the blog-o-sphere is angry with the M's about Jose Lopez, as well as the Ibanez/Clement/Snelling situation.  Just about everybody is clear on Stars & Scrubs vs 25 Honda Civics, and the M's maddening love for Managerial Comfort Zones.

As was pointed out at SportSpot, it's not like Raul Ibanez adds fighting spirit to the M's clubhouse.  What he adds is the example of what a low-maintenance, high-urgency employee is supposed to look like.  Ibanez isn't there because he inspires his teammates to fight for wins; he is there because he inspires his teammates to be ideal employees.

And here's a typical thread at SportSpot, in which fans (justifiably) despair over the Jose Lopez Front:

Here are the top 20 Mariners, as ranked by John Sickels before the 2005 season, and with comments on each player after the season.

John Sickels’ Mariners Top 20 PRE-SEASON Prospects

Notice the strange discussion on Yuniesky Betancourt in the “thread.” The argument is over which of two things will occur:

    1) YuBet hitting for the rest of his career, exactly the way he did in 2005?, or
    2) YuBet hitting a tiny bit better for the rest of his career, than he did in 2005?.

If you don’t know why that discussion is P-I-boardesque, :-) you’re not a regular D-O-V (or SportSpot/ITP) reader. What’s kind of odd is that this same paradigm drove the YuBet ‘analysis’ at the leading Seattle blog earlier this winter.

    .
Amusingly, thebaseballcube.com has him playing for three weeks in the PCL at 14 years of age, and then taking four years off (after getting busted for his age, we assume).

…it’s fun to visualize a junior high schooler getting on base against fring major leaguers … hey, Jason put the ball in play in 17-of-23 atbats :-) 086 OPS

The experience scarred him, because he never regained his upper-deck power after the age of 14.

D-O-V is fortunately not familiar with Bourgeois, and looking at his performance record, we can confidently say “see ya next decade.”

Run-scorer with zero power and poor eye ratio for a slap hitter (57 k, 31 bb last year was typical). Offensively he would be a run-scorer … but scored only 33 runs in 119 games last year.
